Volusia County will open an additional self-service sandbag site from noon until 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at Volusia County Fire Rescue Station 22, Oak Hill Station, 213 N. U.S. Highway 1, Oak Hill. Residents should bring a shovel and proof of Volusia County residency.

The County is also operating two additional self-service sandbag sites until 5 p.m. today at the following locations:

  • Volusia County Fire Rescue Station 23, Turnbull Station, 1850 Pioneer Trail, New Smyrna Beach
  • Volusia County Fire Rescue Station 34, Indian Mound Station, 1700 Enterprise-Osteen Road, Osteen

Residents may receive 10 sandbags at each location. Residents are reminded not to block the fire station bays at any of the locations to ensure emergency personnel can quickly respond to emergencies if needed.

Additionally, the Volusia County Corrections Division will distribute pre-filled sandbags through a drive-thru service until 1 p.m. today at the Volusia County Branch Jail, 1300 Red John Drive, Daytona Beach. Each vehicle is eligible to receive up to 10 pre-filled sandbags.

Proof of Volusia County residency is required at all three County-operated locations. County-operated sandbag sites are open to all residents, regardless of whether they live in an incorporated city or an unincorporated area.

Several municipalities are also distributing sandbags, and most require proof of residency within their jurisdiction. Residents living in incorporated cities should contact their local government for eligibility guidelines.

Volusia County staff will continue coordinating with state officials and the National Weather Service to assess potential local impacts from the storm. Residents can stay updated by downloading the Volusia Emergency Management app, following the County’s social media channels, or visiting www.volusia.org.
