Out of concern for resident safety, Flagler County remains under an overnight curfew.
The curfew is in place from 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. until further notice. The decision was made to ensure both residents' safety and allow emergency personnel to effectively manage any incidents the occur overnight, a county press release said.
Despite the curfew remaining in place and the Rymfire shelter remaining opening, the county has formally rescinded its evacuation order.
Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord said in a press briefing on Oct. 10 about 20 people remain at Rymfire Elementary School. If anyone is still at the shelter after tomorrow, he said, the shelter will be moved to a community center in order to allow the school the time to get ready for reopening on Monday, Oct. 14.
A press release from Flagler Schools announced that all school extracurricular activities will be cancelled on Friday, Oct. 11, but the activities scheduled for the weekend will take place as scheduled.
Oct. 14 was originally scheduled as a teacher work day, but was reassigned as a make-up day for Hurricane Helene, the press release said.
Lord said that while first responders are continuing their assessments of damage, staff was also able to begin the first steps in assessing property damages in the county.
Of the 208 properties county-wide that were able to be reviewed on Oct. 10, the preliminary numbers show only three had major damage.
Another nine had minor damage and 39 with less than 20% damage on the property from the storm, he said. The rest were unndamaged.
