Local and state officials met with Florida Power & Light CEO Armando Pimentel on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Daytona International Speedway about restoring power to thousands of Volusia County residents who suffered outages from Hurricane Milton.

Ormond Beach Commissioner Travis Sargent said Pimentel "provided updates and listened to our concerns."

As of 2 p.m. Saturday, 49,710 FPL customers in Volusia County still had no power, according to a county press release.

Sargent said the company is working hard to restore power to those residents.

Sargent said residents "should see progress today."

Volusia County also announced Saturday that FEMA has officially declared the county a disaster area allowing residents to apply for federal assistance. The declaration unlocks individual and public assistance, as well as hazard mitigation, to help in recovery.

Residents can submit their applications online at www.disasterassistance.gov, through the FEMA mobile app, or by calling 800-621-3362.

Residents needing information from FPL or to report an outage can call 800-468-8243.
