Palm Coast invites residents to join in as the city breaks ground on the new Fire Station 26 in Seminole Woods.
The groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Oct. 24 at 72 Airport Commerce Center Way. The groundbreaking ceremony was originally scheduled for Oct. 10 but had to be postponed because of Hurricane Milton.
Fire Station 26 will serve the area south of State Road 100 and west of Seminole Woods Boulevard. The area is currently served by Palm Coast Fire Department Engine 29, housed at Flagler County Fire Station 92. Since June 2023, the PFCD has provided primary fire protection to that area, a city press release said.
Fire Station 26 is projected to cost $9.9 million to construct.
"The new Fire Station 26 will ensure enhanced service and quicker response times for these communities," the press release said.
The construction firm Wharton & Schultz was selected as the lead construction firm for the project, which is expected to be completed within 12 months. Funding for Fire Station 26 comes from fire impact fees and a $5 million state appropriation funds, the press release said.
Fire Station 26 is one of two new fire stations planned for Palm Coast. The second fire station, the replacement Fire Station 22, will be built at 350 Palm Coast Parkway NE, a third of a mile east of the current historic Fire Station 22. The historic station — located at the corner of Palm Coast Parkway and Clubhouse Drive — is no longer able to serve as a fire station due to the expensive upgrades and repairs it requires.
The new Fire Station 22 construction is estimated to cost is $9.7 million.
