Volusia County is beginning mass debris removal from Hurricane Milton on Oct. 18 for homes in unincorporated Volusia County.

Residents who live in these unincorporated areas and those on county-maintained roads can bring their storm debris to the public right of way, the area that extends from the street to the sidewalk, ditch, utility pole, or easement, a county press release said. Do not place the debris so it obstructs the road or drainage ditches.

Debris needs to be separated into piles for: vegetative debris (meaning leaves, branches and cut trees) construction and demolition materials like carpet, drywall, fences and furniture, and appliances and white goods.

Vegetative debris should not be placed in plastic bags and combined waste piles will not be picked up, the press release said.

Because of the limited resources and the amount of debris, the mass debris removal is expected to be complete by the end of the year. Residents who want to dispose of mixed debris piles, electronics, and household hazardous waste can do so, free of charge, at the Tomoka Landfill or West Volusia Transfer Station.
