On Thursday, September 19, A Palm Coast man was arrested for trying to take the law into his own hands, while armed and under the influence of alcohol.
Thursday evening, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FSCO) received a call about a man approaching the victim’s vehicle armed with a long gun on Regent Lane. The victim told deputies the man, Roland Littlefield, 53, of Palm Coast pointed the gun at him and told the victim, “This is not the spot to hang out.”
The victim told deputies he and his co-workers were employed with a solar company and were on a job but left the area due to the threat.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found two men armed. Littlefield was seen armed with a rifle and another man with a handgun. Both were ordered to drop their weapons and lie face down on the ground. The two were immediately placed in handcuffs while deputies recovered the weapons.
Littlefield admitted to approaching the vehicle, armed, because he believed the occupants were “casing his residence” and was attempting to scare them off. Once the victims left, Littlefield stated he went to a neighbor’s home to solicit some “help.”
The neighbor grabbed his firearm and walked outside but told deputies did not see the encounter with the victims. The neighbor also told deputies he believed Littlefield was intoxicated. A strong odor of alcohol was detected from Littlefield who admitted to having several alcoholic beverages earlier in the evening.
Littlefield was arrested for Use of a Firearm under the Influence of Alcohol and transported to Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on a $500 bond. A handgun and rifle were seized at the scene.
The neighbor solicited by Littlefield was cleared of any wrongdoing. This is not Littlefield’s first time he has been on the wrong side of the law. In March 2015, he was arrested for Domestic Battery.
“You have the right to protect your home, but you cannot take the Law into you own hands like this man. I support responsible gun ownership, but alcohol and firearms are not a good mix. If you think someone is casing your neighborhood or involved in unusual behavior, contact the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. Let the professionals handle the situation. We encourage everyone to remember, if you ‘See Something, Say Something.’” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “In this case the victims were hard-working people trying to make a living.”
