Sept. 13

A mower mystery

10:12 p.m. — 100 block of Rio Pinar Drive, Ormond Beach

Vandalism. Who broke the glass panel next to home's front door? Could it have been caused by a riding lawn mower?

Police responded to a local neighborhood after a homeowner reported the glass panel beside her front door had been smashed. The homeowner told police she had just returned from diner and a movie when she noticed the broken panel, according to an incident report.

Police cleared the house for intruders, finding none. There was also no evidence that someone had broken in, and officers didn't find any foreign objects that would have been used to break the glass, like a rock. But, they did notice what appeared to be tracks in her front yard — ones that looked like a riding lawn mower had been driven on it, the report notes.

Officers explained the possibility that something could have flown out from the mower's blades and broken the glass. If the vandalism was found to be intentional, the homeowner wished to pursue charges.
