Volusia County Schools has announced changes to its operations this week due to approaching Tropical Storm Helene. At this time, all after-school activities except for Extended Day Enrichment Programs will be canceled on Wednesday, Sept. 25. Additionally, all schools and district offices will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 26. The storm is expected to bring heavy rain, wind, and debris, which may disrupt bus operations across the county.

On Tuesday, Volusia County was added to the list of counties under a state of emergency declared by Gov. Ron DeSantis. In addition, Volusia County officials have also issued their own state of emergency.

At this time, there are no changes to operations on Friday, including after-school activities and athletics. Schools are also not expected to be used as shelters. Families and staff are encouraged to stay tuned to their emails, VCS social media, and the VCS Storm Resource Center webpage (www.vcsedu.org/community/storm-resource-center) for further updates that may impact operations.

VCS Operations teams will be deployed as soon as it is safe to do so after the storm to check schools and bus routes for debris and damage.

More information will be communicated in the future about making up this instructional day.
