As Hurricane Helene began to move closer to landfall, the Flagler County School District announced that all of its schools will be closed for a second straight day on Friday, Sept. 27.

Earlier in the day Thursday, the district announced it would re-open schools Friday, but after receiving the 8 p.m. update from Flagler County Emergency Management, the district reconsidered.

An email sent to the families of Flagler Schools students said, "The safety of our students, faculty, staff and community remain our top priority. We appreciate your understanding and will bring you any necessary updates as they become available."

However, all extracurricular activities and athletic events that are scheduled after school hours Friday and into the weekend will take place as scheduled, the district announced.
