A Palm Coast man was arrested on Tuesday, April 8, in Mississippi after being charged by the Flagler County Sheriff's Office for animal cruelty regarding a cat's death.
According to a press release, 34-year-old Atticus Robert was first arrested on false imprisonment charges on March 7 after deputies responded to a local domestic disturbance that began when the victim discovered her cat had died from severe physical injuries. The FCSO reports that Robert blocked the victim's attempts to leave during the argument. He was transported to the county jail and later released on a $5,000 bond.
While investigating the domestic disturbance incident, deputies determined that Robert had been alone with the cat for about an hour before the cat died. Robert sported scratches on his face. A necropsy found that the cat had died from collapsed lungs due to blunt force trauma.
Detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest on April 3, but Robert's whereabouts were unknown. He was believed to be living out of his car.
He was then located by the Hernando Police Department in Mississippi and transported to the DeSoto County Adult Detention Facility in Hernando, Mississippi, where he will be held until extradition to Flagler County.
