U.S. flags will fly at half-staff in Volusia County on Tuesday for late Ormond Beach Capt. Jonathan Campos, who was killed while piloting the plane involved in the Jan. 29 Washington, D.C. crash with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter.

After a request from Ormond Beach Mayor Jason Leslie, Gov. Ron DeSantis directed the flags be flown at half-staff at all local and state buildings, installations and grounds in Volusia County, from sunrise to sunset on Feb. 11. This takes place almost two weeks after the mid-air collision that killed 67 people, including American Eagle Flight 5342's passengers and the three soldiers aboard the helicopter.

Campos was a 2015 graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He had flown for PSA Airlines for eight years, becoming a captain in 2022. PSA Airlines is a subsidiary of American Airlines.

"Capt. Campos exhibited his passion for aviation and love of flying in service of others every day, in every friendly encounter with his students, and in every on-air announcement to his cabin and crew," the governor's memorandum states.
