It is with great sadness to announce the death of Elaine MacDonald (Sedgwick), who passed on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at the age of 84 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Elaine is survived by her husband of 41 years, David MacDonald; their four children (Mark, Kevin, Tina, and Lisa), nine grandchildren, and her sister Ann. Elaine was vivacious, fun, and larger than life. Those who knew her can attest that she never met a stranger in her life. She loved to socialize and was always ready to share a story or two with anyone who would listen. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, traveling, cooking and eating. She was one of a few who took a swim in the Antarctic Ocean! Although there are many things Elaine will be remembered for, she will especially be remembered for her beautiful singing and her Tahitian dancing and always being the life of the party.
Elaine left an indelible mark wherever she went and lived in many places including California, Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Vermont, New York, Florida, and Connecticut. For the past few years Elaine lived in San Diego, with Dave close by, but her remains will ultimately be returned to a place near and dear to her heart, Kailua, Hawaii, per her wishes.
We owe special gratitude to the wonderful staff of Windsor of Palm Coast and Summerfield Encinitaas Memory Care, who treated Elaine while she was in Florida and California. They showed an incredible amount of love and compassion for Elaine over the past five years.
A celebration of life event will be held in San Diego on February 14th. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages friends and family to send a donation to Holt International, which is an organization that assists families and vulnerable children to overcome poverty with family services, treatment and care, and adoption services. Holt International was an important organization to Elaine and a big part of her life, through which she adopted two of her four children.
