The Shackelford Family was selected as Ormond Memorial Art Museum’s featured family from the museum's Jan. 3 Free Family Art Night event.
According to a statement from the museum, Don and Vickie Shackelford are retired and always looking for a new and fun activity to do together.
"The Shackelfords are a friendly and wonderful couple with a zest for life," the museum statement reads. "They stopped in for the first time on Jan. 3 and created a Neurographic Rhythm Stick and then shared how to make it with a number of other participants." The monthly activity is free and open to all ages and levels of skills.
"We did something totally different tonight!" Vickie Shackelford said. "Our usual activities include playing golf, cards, fishing and riding our motorcycles. We discovered the Neurographic art class at Ormond Memorial Art Museum. This was fun — lots of young families attended, watching and learning from each other."
OMAM’s Family Art Night takes place from 5:30-7 p.m. on most first Fridays of the month. All art supplies are provided, and the program is sponsored in part by the Women United Volusia Chapter.
The next program is scheduled for Feb. 1.
