Early voting for the Jan. 28 special primary election for Congressional District 6 began Saturday, Jan. 18, and continues each day through Jan. 25. The special primary election is a closed primary for registered Democrat and Republican voters only.

There are two early voting sites for the special primary in Flagler County — the Supervisor of Elections Office at Suite 101 in the Government Services Building, 1769 E. Moody Blvd.; and the Flagler County Library Main Branch at 2500 Palm Coast Parkway NW. Early voting hours at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. including weekends.

The special election was called to replace three-term U.S. Rep. Michael Waltz, who has been selected by President Trump to be national security adviser. Waltz resigned his seat, effective Jan. 20. Congressional District 6 includes all of Flagler and Putnam counties and portions of Volusia, Lake, Marion and St. Johns counties.

Three Republicans and two Democrats are vying for the seat. A vote cast on the Democrat ballot for Purvi Bangdiwala, who has withdrawn from the race, will not count. Votes cast for George A. “Ges” Selmont or Josh Weil will count. Republican voters can choose from Aaron Baker, Randy Fine or  Ehsan Joarder.

The special general election will be April 1. The special election does not change or interrupt the regularly scheduled municipal elections in the cities of Bunnell and Flagler Beach and the town of Beverly Beach on March 4.
