The Flagler County Sheriff's Office arrested a 44-year-old apartment maintenance worker on Jan. 13, who detectives report stole jewelry from a Palm Coast resident and sold it to several pawn shops.
According to a press release, a resident at the Tuscan Reserve Apartments contacted the FCSO on Dec. 22, 2024, to report a delayed burglary on numerous pieces of jewelry. There was no forced entry, and the victim reported the only person who would have had access was the apartment complex's maintenance worker, Joshua Powell, of Satsuma.
The victim called the FCSO the next day to report she had found some of her stolen jewelry at a pawn shop in Bunnell. The transaction receipt showed that Powell had sold the jewelry on Dec. 13, 2024.
An FCSO detective discovered that Powell had been to 10 different pawn shops in Volusia and Flagller counties and sold 33 items, mostly women's jewelry, since Nov. 4, 2024. Detectives are seeking additional victims in the case.
Residents at Tuscan Reserve Apartments in Palm Coast are encouraged to check for missing jewelry items and contact the FCSO non-emergency line at 386-313-4911 (reference FCSO case no. 2025-109737) if they believe items have been stolen.
“This man was trusted to access people’s apartments and betrayed that trust and stole from them,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said in the press release. “Detectives are hard at work seeking additional victims to make sure this dirtbag is held accountable for all his crimes. I encourage all Tuscan Reserve Apartments residents to double check and make sure that nothing is missing and if it is try to recover your property.”
Powell was arrested for burglary, four counts of false verification of ownership, four counts of dealing in stolen property and criminal mischief. While he was taken to jail on Jan. 13, he was later released on a $17,000 bond.
