The Pilot Club of the Halifax Area provided bicycle helmets for children in the MLK Community Health Resource Fair in Daytona Beach on Jan. 11.

The event was organized by the National Panhellenic Council, Kappa Alpha Psi, Mayo Clinic, Department of Health in Volusia County, Daytona Beach City Commissioner Paula Reed and the city of Daytona Beach.

Each child also received a goodie bag filled with information on bicycle safety tips, Florida bicycle laws, bicycle hand signals, plus safety reminders using comic and coloring/activity booklets,  courtesy of the Pilot Club’s BrainMinders program and the Florida Department of Transportation.

The Pilot Club provided the helmets to encourage brain safety and help prevent traumatic brain injuries, which is the focus of the BrainMinders program.

Members fitted helmets for the children, which were obtained free from the FDOT through PedBike, Florida’s Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety Resource Center.
