DOH issues a rabies alert in Ormond Beach

The alert is the result of the confirmation of a rabies case involving a cat near Collins Street and Hand Avenue.

The Florida Department of Health in Volusia County has issued a rabies alert in Ormond Beach after a case was confirmed in a cat near Collins Street and Hand Avenue.

The following boundary area is under a rabies alert, according to a Facebook post by Volusia County Animal Services:

  • Eastern: South Center Street/South Orchard Street
  • Northern: State Road 40/West Granada Boulevard
  • Southern: Golf Avenue/Calle Grande Street
  • Western: Clyde Morris Boulevard

Volusia County Animal Services will not accept cats from within the affected area for spay/neuter services for the next 60 days.

Residents are reminded to vaccinate their pets and keep them supervised when outdoors, avoid contact with wild or stray animals, and contact Ormond Beach Animal Control at 386-676-3262 for any concerns regarding cats within the boundary area.
