As daylight saving time begins on Sunday, March 9, the city of Palm Coast reminds residents and businesses of updated watering restrictions.
With warmer weather approaching, irrigation is allowed twice per week instead of once. However, watering only when necessary helps conserve resources and maintain a healthy landscape. Watch for signs of a stressed lawn and adjust accordingly.
Proper watering not only saves water but also prevents mold, fungus, weak roots, weeds, and pests. Now is also a great time to check irrigation systems for broken sprinkler heads, correct timer settings, and working rain sensors.
Spring and Summer Watering Schedule
As temperatures rise, twice-a-week watering supports plant health while avoiding waste. In the fall and winter, cooler temperatures and frequent rain reduce the need for irrigation, shifting restrictions back to once per week.
The city follows the St. Johns River Water Management District’s guidelines to help protect the regional water supply and ecosystem. By adjusting irrigation to seasonal conditions and watering only when needed, residents and businesses can help reduce unnecessary strain on local water resources.
