Young Guns defendant accused of shooting, killing Daytona Beach man is indicted

John Oliphant III was charged with first-degree felony murder, burglary, battery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

The Volusia County Grand Jury heard the case of John Oliphant III last week. 

The Young Guns defendant is accused of shooting and killing a man after breaking into a Daytona Beach apartment unit on March 4, 2025. The victim died from his injuries at the hospital. The indictment was handed down on Thursday morning (March 20). Oliphant was charged with First-Degree Felony Murder, Burglary with a Battery and Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon for pistol-whipping another man in the home.

The case was investigated by the Daytona Beach Police Department. Assistant State Attorney Andrew Urbanak is the prosecutor assigned to the case.
