Palm Coast family loses home in Matanzas Woods after fire

One of the home's residents was injured trying to save the family's pets. Four pets died in the fire.

A home in Matanzas Woods caught fire early Friday morning, resulting in the loss of four pets, according to the Palm Coast Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the home at 1:03 a.m. A Facebook post by the agency states that when crews arrived, they found "a home with heavy fire and thick black smoke coming from the rear, extending into the attic."

The residents reported the fire began on the pool deck at the back of the house. One resident, who was transported to the hospital in stable condition, suffered significant smoke inhalation while attempting to rescue their pets.
