A 30-year-old Palm Coast man was convicted and sentenced on Wednesday, March 26, for his role as an accomplice in the 2019 murder of Deon Jenkins.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office reports that Derrius Bauer was sentenced to 15 years in prison, with credit for the 1,540 days (about four years and two months) he served at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility.

On Oct. 12, 2019, Marcus Chamblin shot and killed Jenkins outside a Circle K gas station, firing 16 rounds in less than four seconds. He later fled the state with Bauer. In April 2024, Chamblin was found guilty of first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle, according to a press release.

Bauer pleaded no contest to an accessory charge, but reached a plea agreement, leading to his sentencing.

"This guy tried to thwart our investigation at every turn, but in the end it failed and he is now joining his dirtbag friend in prison,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly said in the press release. “Even after Marcus Chamblin was convicted, Bauer continued to play games, but eventually the rolling of the dice and likely spending life in prison changed his mind. I believe he finally got smart and made a better choice, because our detectives and partners built a strong case that he would have likely spent the rest of his life in prison if a jury convicted him at a trial.”

Staly said this was the "most extensive case in the history of our agency," involving over 15 partner agencies.
